National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders (NPQML)

NPQML is suitable for middle leaders with responsibility for a team and provides recognition of leadership development and professional achievement. The qualification has a flexible, modular structure that combines core modules with the freedom to specialise and to develop candidate’s own professional areas of interest through the choice of elective modules. The qualification is assessed and accredited by the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

Bury Secondary Learning Collaborative (BSLC) is an associate hub for the delivery of NPQML and NPQSL and may be able to secure a reduced cost to the course, for both primary and secondary colleagues. Contact Barbara Bryant for further details on: barbarabryant.bslc@virginmedia.com

Who is the qualification for?

  • Candidates must be either existing middle leaders or aspiring middle leaders who have experience of leading a team

What does the qualification offer?

  • The qualification provides recognition of leadership development and professional achievement for middle leaders

  • Access to high-quality learning materials and accounts of practice from outstanding leaders

  • A flexible, modular structure that combines core modules with the freedom to specialise and to develop candidate’s own professional areas through choice of elective modules

How will the programme be delivered?

  • Each module consists of workplace learning and practice activities, face-to-face workshops and online learning

  • The programme will run over a period over a period of 12 months

  • Delivery of face-to-face sessions will be in Bury schools (for those courses accessed through the BSLC)

  • Through a purpose built virtual learning environment enabled for mobiles and tablets

Delivery Model (for courses accessed through the BSLC):

  • Three face-to-face training sessions

  • Three facilitated online short courses

  • Two 360 degree Leadership Diagnostic Reports

  • One assessed task on a school improvement priority

  • Support from a nominated in-school mentor
